In this June 12, 1796 letter, Monroe reports that the Directoire is no longer acting on an unidentified subject from previous correspondence, and that he no longer believes it will be an issue. He then discusses the replacement of a consul official and the treatment of Americans in France. He then discusses the end of a truce and the resumption of hostilities in Italy.
